A UX checkpoint is an intentional moment where the interface makes a process visible so the user understands what is happening.
Useful friction can improve trust and comprehension.
When to Use It
Use a checkpoint when the user is about to:
- confirm an important action
- submit sensitive data
- accept an automated suggestion
- move to the next major step
- recover from an error
Good Checkpoints
Good checkpoints slow the user down for a reason.
They should clarify:
- what will happen next
- what the user can still change
- what risk or uncertainty exists
- how to continue or cancel
